Resin driveway cleaning is not complicated. It’s just due to the texture and finish of the driveway, which lends itself to requiring a slightly different approach. Bonded resin is a relatively new form of hard exterior surfaces; however, it gets dirty and soon starts to look tired. The fantastic thing about this drive style is its ability to self-drain. Water soaks through it like a sponge, meaning no surface water pooling.

Cleaning A Resin Driveway
Resin drives are weed-free, aren’t they?
Contrary to popular belief and many misconceptions, resin driveways are not weed-free. Many companies push so-called weed-free surfaces, resin and stamped concrete, to name just 2. Theoretically, they are much more resistant to weed growth than block paving; however, like most things in life, it’s all down to maintenance. No area is guaranteed weed-free, sorry to say, but weeds and moss will grow anywhere. If there is a crack, a weed will find it. Due to the texture of these drives, moss and hair grass grows quite well if not maintained.

Cleaning Resin
When cleaning this drive style, its ability to hold onto dirt is the biggest issue. As previously mentioned, it’s a very good self-draining surface. A perfect clean isn’t guaranteed, owing to the area’s texture. Yes, it can look a lot better; however, the nature of the surface lends itself to striping.
Striping
It doesn’t matter if you use a conventional lance or a rotary surface cleaner. The fact is striping is inevitable. Using excessive pressure will give a deeper clean but at the risk of damage. To help with this, we recommend using a biocide chemical; this then means we can use lower water pressure. This chemical helps to break down dirt and results in a more uniform result. Again it won’t be perfect, but it will be much better. Striping is where dirt remains behind. Cleaning your resin drive yearly will help prevent dirt buildup. This also keeps hair grass, and moss under control.
Maintenance
Maintenance is key to keeping your resin drive in top condition. Don’t neglect it; have it cleaned regularly. If trees or hedges surround your driveway and gets quite a lot of shade, have it done yearly. If it’s open and gets a lot of sunshine, then every two years is fine. Do not be tempted to try it yourself with a DIY washer. Due to the low flow rate of these machines and user inexperience, it can make the striping a lot worse.
